About us

Northface Solar (Pty) Ltd provide Reliable Solar PV installations.  We offer turn-key engineering, procurement and construction PV solar PV (photovoltaic) solutions to residential, industrial, and commercial clients.
Formed in 2011, we had a dream that every home and business would have a reliable Solar PV System and we would help our clients enjoy real savings and achieve energy independence, while together we helped the environment by promoting clean, renewable energy.
We are passionate about solar and see it as a crucial part of moving away from fossil fuels.  Renewable energy is now more affordable to produce as electricity costs continue to rise.
Our dedicated teams install functional and aesthetically pleasing Solar PV Systems to residential and commercial customers.
We are also registered PV Green Card holders with SAPVIA and have long term relationships with our suppliers and distributors of solar equipment.  We use only accredited Solar Equipment supported by manufacturer warranties with full technical support.

Our systems

We provide EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) solutions to suit our clients. Where possible, we measure the load beforehand to ensure that the Solar PV System is correctly sized.  If the residential load cannot be measured, we look at previous electricity bills.  We use our own specific load meter for our commercial clients as we measure the load accurately to ensure the correct design and operation of the solar system.  This is important to ensure the client enjoys a reliable solar PV system that suis the property.
We work mainly with Deye and Sunsynk for our solar inverters and Deye, Sunsynk and Revov Battery Storage PTY Ltd for our lithium ion battery supply.  The reporting on the Hybrid inverter is simple to understand and it is easy to monitor your system from your phone.  We are also seeing an increase in Grid Tied solar systems, with no battery support, to simply save money on electricity bills.  Often businesses already have generators to cope with load shedding and without battery costs, the returns on these systems are significant. 
For larger battery energy storage systems (BESS) installations we work with Sungrow, Revov, Blue Nova and Solar MD.  We only supply certified Tier 1 solar panels and use a variety including:  Canadian Solar, JA Solar, Jinko, Trina and Longi.  We work with these companies as they provide accredited solar equipment with industry standard warranties and provide quality and value for money for the client.  Their track record is extremely good and their equipment and service is reliable and ensures our clients enjoy the benefits of their solar PV installation.  
We provide both single phase and three phase solar solutions to residential and commercial clients.  We have installed systems from 5kWp up to 350kWp. 
Our workmanship warranty is for 2 years but we are with the client through the life of the system and provide technical support where needed. 
Inverter Warranties:  5 to 10 years
Battery Warranties:  5 to 10 years
Tier 1 quality panel:  10-12-year product and 25-year yield warranties.
 In terms of the registration of our systems, we only use accredited inverters and collect, manage and submit all SSEG paperwork on behalf of the client.  In addition, our office team have built strong relationships with the relevant departments which allows us to also deal with the unusual or unconventional applications/properties/electricity meters etc.

Our Team

Northface Solar was founded by Jason Pournara and Paul Manning upon returning to South Africa after 15 years in the United Kingdom.  As a qualified Corgie engineer Paul had built a successful plumbing and gas company.  Jason had built a veterinary supply company supplying products to corporate clients and has a Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town.  Together they decided that everyone needed a solar panel and they wanted to help South Africans adopt solar technology and achieve energy independence and long terms savings.    
Jason Sheppard joined in 2015 to head up our Operations Division.  Jason comes from a building background, and also had a building business in the United Kingdom.  Jason has an eye for detail second to none and he is there to ensure that our installations are secure, safe and aesthetically pleasing.
He is supported by Manqoba Sikhakhne, our qualified electrician, who is supported by Mathew Mumba, Tinashe Mabukwa, and Yongama Dyonte on the AC side.  On the DC side we have our Stock Manager, Sheppard Nuywani, supported by Nureen Manus, Tevin Bason and Kyle Theunissen.  Most of the installation team have been with us for the last 8 years, some longer, while we have also welcomed some new faces recently as we have grown. 
Our office is managed by Natasha James, our Office Manager and Porchea Theunissen.  They are responsible for all the administration and accounting and are based in the office.  They have both been with Northface Solar for over 9 years and are extremely vital to our business as they are central to all that we do. 
In 2022, we were very fortunate that Chris Lear joined the team to add his skills and experience to our ever-growing commercial division.  Chris is a quantity surveyor by trade with over 15 years of solar experience in the commercial and industrial space, including design, procurement, construction and project management for systems ranging in size from 100KW to 5.5MW.  Chris is also a Director of Northface Solar and Heads up our Procurement and Commercial Divisions.  
Our installations are also all signed off by a Pr Eng. as part of the SSEG application for registration of Solar PV Systems in Cape Town.
